Japanese section

The history and development of the section

Sincethe establishment of the university, Japanese section had started to train its academicactivities based on the intellectual capacity of the scientistsof Northeast InstituteofAsian Studiesand their efforts in 1993.Firstly,the section started its first lessons with 20 students but today, over 600 staff hasbeen trained from this section. Japanese section was founded at the initiative of teachers B.Serjav, Japanist, Sc.D. and Prof of Academy in Study of International Studies and Arai Shinichi, famous Mongolist, former professor of Osaka University. It was underlined that Mongolian and Japaneseprofessors and researchers made great contributions to advertising of Japanese culture and developing and expanding of section.

Student activities

The section annually has organized many traditional activities to strengthen students’ smartness, ability and knowledge, including,

·         “Learn to speak Japanese” Autumn Day

·         Contests which named, “Who knows Japanese well”, “Writing a good report” and “Questions and Answers Quiz”

·         “Good Writer of Japanese”, “Paper folding” amongst the students of freshmen

Our graduates

Of all the graduates,10% go abroad for further studies andthe rest of themwork in different

sections in their motherland including, Japanese Mongolian joint venture companies, Japanese language schools, training centers, universities, Institute of Linguistics and Literatureand Institute of History of Academy Sciences, Cabinet Secretariats of Mongolian Parliament, Mongolian National Broadcasting, National Museum of Mongolia as well as local museums.

        At present, Japanese section consists of 3 professions that offer bachelor's degree, namely Translation-Japanese language, History researcher-Japanese language translator, Archaeologist- Japanese language translator. The section has teaching staff of 6 teachers who have improved their professional experience in Japan,namely Ts.Amgalan Center for Northeast Asian Studies, Tohoku University, 2004-2006 and InternationalResearcher for Japan, JENESYSProgram in 2011, Ch.ManalsurenCenter for Northeast Asian Studies, Tohoku University, 2006-2007 and Japan International Institute in 2012, O.OtgonjargalJapan International Institute in 2005-2006, L.Erdenetsetseg, Ts.NerguiInternationalResearcher for Japan, JENESYS Program in 2011 and Ts.TsengelsurenJapan International Institute in 2012.

General Knowledge department

History and development of department

Since 1992, establishment of the Ulaanbaatar State University, English sector was organized and has paid   more attention to develop Academic trainings and research study. Today the department has held academic trainings by two main trends: Professionals and General English.

Since academic year of 2000-2001, English department was begun to train “The researcher and translator of Mongolian-English” who is majored in Mongolian-English, and first graduation was in 2004, also has already made 10 graduation now.

From the academic year of 2014-2015, the department has expanded and re-organized as a department of General Knowledge by the decree of Academic Council, University of Ulaanbaatar. Main goal of General knowledge department is training qualified individuals and professionals who can complete in labor market and improving English teaching at the home university, not only English but also other subjects considered as “General Knowledge subjects”.


            Learning English is necessary requirement of the social development and progress of technology in science. The Department intends to support teachers’ research works and study, to increase their skills, getting postgraduate education and to develop students’ language and learning skills and support their inspirations and multilateral-creative activities.

Other activities:

Not only academic training, we’ve held many public festivals and activities, “English Spring Festival” is held every year. Therefore “Halloween Party”, “Thanksgiving Day” is held traditionally and annually. English Olympiad named after the Rector of the University was held in 2007, for inspiration students’ skills and learning English. The State University of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, was named first as the Institute of Technology and founded in 1992 according to the order No. 109 of the minister of the Ministry of Science and Education  of the day, 29th February 1992, encouraging the initiatives by Mongolian Academy of Science to form the higher educational school for training young successors scientists  in ways to select the students who were the winners  at Olympiads or competitive exams.  According to the order No. 15 of the day, 15th January 1995, and the decree of the capital city’s governor (No. 259/A-184 of the day, 26th July 1996) the Institute of Technology was categorized into the university and became the State University of Ulaanbaatar.

The University provides three-level or undergraduate (bachelor) and postgraduate (master and doctorate) training and special features of the training is to be the training- research-industrial trinity.  

To implement  the set activities known as ‘the training-research-industrial trinity’ of the State University of Ulaanbaatar,  there lead and work many  scientists and teaching professors, including  the ‘Order of Chinggis Khaan’, State Prize winner,  Merit Figure of Science, academic Kh. Namsrai, the academic Ts. Baatar and the doctor, professor Ch. Dechinpuntsag (Sc. D) who are phisicists; the doctor, professor U. Badam (Ph. D) and the doctor, associate professor G. Ankhbayar (Ph. D) who work in mathematics, the academic D. Baatar, the science doctor, professor E. Ganbold (Sc. D) and the doctor G. Tserenkhand  (Ph. D) – in biology, the science doctor, professor J. Oyun (Sc. D), the doctor, professor D. Urtnasan (Ph. D) and the doctor B. Munkhtsetseg (Ph. D) – in chemistry; the honored culture worker, doctor, professor D. Tsedev (Ph. D, the honored culture worker, doctor, professor Ch. Dagvadorj (Ph. D), the merit teacher, doctor, professor O. Tsevegdorj (Ph. D), the science doctor, professor S. Baigalsaikhan (Sc. D),       the doctor, professor S. Tsolmon (Ph. D), the doctor, professor Ts. Erdenebat (Ph. D), the doctor, professor G. Lovor (Ph. D), the doctor, professor D. Erdenebaatar (Ph. The University’s scientists, professors according to their research studies line release educational, academic and exploratory work within cooperation of higher educational establishments in higher developed countries, especially including Truest Academy, Italy; Hamburg University, Germany; Тохоку University, Japan, Васеда University,  Japan; Intellective University, Korean Republic;   Chonnam University, Dankook University, KR; Son Chun Khyan University, KR; Sankt Petersburg University, Russian Federation (RF); Irkutsk University, RF; Ulaan-Ud University of Buryat,  University of Chita, RF; Central Nation’s University , People’s Republic of China;  Beijing Foreign Language and Cultural School, Yantai University, Inner Mongolian University, Inner Mongolian Teacher’s University and Academy and Research Centers.

Training activities in the university have advantages of which based resources are their university’s professors, scientists and labs as well as the intellectual potential of scientists from the Academy of Science, in other words is the co-operation within their basic research. Our students, masters and doctorates have had the opportunity to get involved in domestic and international research projects, field expeditions and studies since they have been learning in the university. In addition to this, as the result of the cooperation, the graduates from our university have the opportunity to work as research workers in  Institutes of the Academy of Science. Our graduates have been working successfully in the Physics, Chemical, Informatics, Biological, Botany’s, Language and Literature, History and Archeological Institutes of the Academy of Science.
